The village of Islamorada is under the jurisdiction of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, which emphasizes strong bonds between the community and serving officers. The Monroe County Sheriff’s office upholds a philosophy of providing the citizens of Islamorada with professional law enforcement and quick response the community’s needs as its Chief Law Enforcement Officer. The Village law enforcement patrol division currently consists of 4 sergeants and 12 patrol officers. Islamorada patrol area is 44 square miles consisting of four islands, mainly linear, with a permanent resident population of approximately seven to eight thousand a number that can easily double at the peak of tourist season. Uniform officers respond to both emergencies and service calls from the community, and are responsible for handling any follow-up investigation of cases within the Village of Islamorada. In addition, local law enforcement seeks to deter criminal activity through prevention, maintaining a highly visible patrol in order to keep both residents and visitors safe. Islamorada Village of Islands considers itself proactive in its approach and strives to be a professional organization of community-minded public servants. Islamorada Marine Patrol Unit The Islamorada Marine Unit consists of two full time operators and boats and one part time operator and boat. The Marine Unit patrols approximately 50 miles of shoreline as well as the numerous miles of inland canals. The Marine Unit seeks to elicit compliance with nautical laws and village ordinances through education. The Marine Unit is responsible for enforcement of these laws and ordinances and is rigorous in upholding its duty when the situation necessitates enforcement over education.
